Hopefully this will answer the easy questions you've got. Any question not on this list can always be sent to the administrators.

| May I have my own alcove? | First, become an alcove member. Then, if you're interested in having a personal space to display your literature, you need to email us two of your short stories, poems, or other written works. This serves two purposes: first, it gives you a chance to pick your favorites for display, and second, it means we don't have a lot of empty directories sitting around (which can frustrate readers). You should also start working on a brief bio for your page. You can get details about this whole process from our directory constructor, Valkyrie. |
| That group sounds like fun, can I join them? | This is largely up to the group. Depending on how flexible they are, they could allow people to just jump in, or they might require a "test" period where both you and they can see how well you would fit in with the other authors. More information about this can be obtained from the designated group editor, whose email address will be displayed on the group's Alcove page. |
| Can I start my own collective story and recruit some writers for it? | Heck yeah. Go for it. Get a few people together, discuss the genre/plot you have in mind, and whip up a quick proposal (email to Valkyrie). Accounts and directories will be set up for your group. |
| I signed up, but my username and password aren't working. | The new-user setup isn't automated -- we create new accounts by hand. Once you've gotten the email saying you're a member, your username and password should work. If you haven't received a confirmation email within 24 hours, please send more mail to the admins asking what's up. |
| I know my username and password, but they aren't working. | The security system is case-sensitive, so make sure you're using the right password (including CAPS in the right places), and make sure you don't have Caps Lock on. If all your information is correct and you're still restricted from areas you SHOULD be able to access, it's likely a problem on our end. Send mail to the admins. |
| Why can't I get into all the Alcoves? | Some authors/works on the site want to be read and reviewed by a restricted group of individuals. You can get in touch with the authors or administrators to ask about particular sections. Unless it's your alcove or your group's alcove, you will never be able to access Draft folders. If you know you should be able to access a folder but can't, send mail to the admins. |
| It's awfully quiet, how can I find people to write to/with? | Meet new people by signing up for the mailing lists. Once you're on the lists, you can also use the Yahoo! group chat rooms for live conversations. Also, feel free to drop a note to any author on the site and tell them what you think of their works. |
| How can I offer an author my comments? | After each entry, there's an email link (see the (c) Author Name? click on that). Try to be constructive -- whether positive or negative, give a little detail so they know what got your attention. |
| Will my information be distributed/sold? | No. If you're worried about having your email address on your web pages, we can give you a forwarding address (yourname@authalc.com). If you don't want your real name used, please email accounts@authalc.com
to discuss a pen name. Additionally, you retain ownership of any works posted on this site unless you explicitly give them up. (See the Copyright Info page.) |

| How do I access my user@authalc.com email? | Two options: it can forward to your standard email account, or you can check it online. Contact the admins for more information. |
| How much editorial support can I get? Do I HAVE to be edited? | At the moment, we can't offer much beyond a brief skim-through and correction of egregious typographical or grammatical errors (basic copy editing). If you're interested in thorough commenting, ask and we'll try to get you hooked up with somebody who can work with you on a work or works.
As for the second part of the question, we do reserve the right to briefly screen every work before it is posted to the public pages. We do not allow overly explicit adult material or plagarism. If you wrote something and it hasn't been moved yet, ask the admins why -- we're probably just busy or missed it. |
